Is poker a kind of gambling?

Often when we hear people say they played poker some regard the game as gambling. But many people who play the game regularly and make a living out of it opion that had it been gambling they would never make it a profession for themselves. The debate over whether poker is a kind of gambling or not, is endless. Some who find the game interesting say no whereas there are many who consider it as gambling where you lose and make money. But many people and psychologists say that there can be different kinds of gambling and poker is just one of them which is not at all a bad habit.

Buying stocks is often regarded as gambling in the books of psychologists. Any kind of investment too can be considered gambling therefore it would be unfair to call poker a gambling and ask people to stay away from it. Gambling in a way is a big word as many consider it to be a bad occupation wherein you do something illegal. Not all gambling is illegal and had it been the government would ask us not to play it.

We often end up buying lottery tickets which also in a way is gambling so should we consider ourselves as people who indulge in bad practices. The answer is definitely not. Poker is simply a game that involves money transactions. If we win it’s ok but if we lose then it become gambling. Therefore it is high time we regard this game as a game itself and nothing more. In fact poker is viewed by the courts as a gambling where luck predominates the player. In fact there are many states that have declared that poker is not a kind of gambling and in all respect it should be played only as a game.
